Marching Band The Pride of Northwest is under the direction of Ben Burge. The band is made up of students in grades 9-12 and has 130+ members. The Pride of Northwest has consistently received superior ratings in the Mississippi High School Activities Association State Marching Band Evaluation and at numerous festivals and contests throughout the region. The band has competed in the Mississippi State Marching Band Championships in 2007, 2008, and 2010. In 2009 the band traveled to Chicago, Illinois and marched in the nationally televised State Street Thanksgiving Day Parade. The band has also traveled to Washington, D.C. and Orlando, Florida.
Concert Band The Northwest Rankin Jazz Band is made up of students in grades 8-12 under the direction of Jerry Pickering. The Jazz Band performs at many community and school events throughout the year. The repertoire of the Jazz Band includes many jazz standards, jazz-rock, latin, and popular songs. This year the band has performed in Orlando, Florida at Downtown Disney, at the NWR Relay for Life 'Rockin' the Night' event, at the NWR Valentine Gala with Dexter Allen, and at many concerts and school events throughout the year.
Fusion Fusion is the winter guard ensemble at Northwest Rankin High School under the direction of Ben Burge. Fusion combines colorguard and dance with vivid elegance to create a vibrant production. Fusion is a member of the Mississippi Indoor Association where they compete with other groups throughout our state and region. Fusion has attended the Mississippi Indoor Association Championships since 2009. In 2008 Fusion attended the Marching Auxiliaries Southern Regional Competition at Grace King High School in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Jazz Band The Concert and Symphonic Bands are under the direction of Matt McDonald and Ben Burge respectively. The concert program at Northwest Rankin is the cornerstone of musical learning within the band program. The concert program strives to instill musical knowledge and understanding with expressive and creative interpretation within the students. The Concert and Symphonic Band participate in the Mississippi State Concert & Sightreading Evaluation each spring at Pearl High School. In 2008 the combined bands travelled to Washington, D.C. where they performed a concert at the National World War II memorial.
